This homemade DIY All-Purpose Cleaner is super easy and cheap to make! It’s potent and very concentrated and can be mixed with water to dilute it and help it last longer.
If you clicked on this article, you probably already know that the majority of all conventional cleaners contain harmful chemicals. These chemicals are not safe to be breathing in or touching, much less using around our children. Many of the chemicals in Store-bought cleaners contain endocrine and hormone-disrupting chemicals that do not contribute to a healthy home and lifestyle.
Enter DIY all-purpose cleaner! You don’t have to worry about breathing in the smell, you don’t have to worry about anyone sitting on the toilet seat while it’s still wet (cringe), and you don’t have to worry about your kids being around while you clean. It’s completely safe and non-toxic.
Not to mention making your own DIY all-purpose cleaner is way cheaper and lasts way longer than purchasing conventional cleaner (especially if you’re trying to purchase “clean” cleaners that are free of harmful toxins).

How to Make Your Own DIY All-Purpose Cleaner
Collect Your Supplies
-Apple Cider Vinegar
-Organic Oranges
-Glass Jar
–Parchment paper (if using a metal lid)
Peel Your Oranges
Now it’s time to peel your oranges! You can either peel them all at once and save the oranges in the fridge to snack on throughout the day, OR you can store your peels in a bowl in the fridge throughout the week every time you eat an orange.
Make Your Cleaner
Put your orange peels in your mason jar. Fill the jar about 3/4 full with peels. Fill your jar to the top with Apple Cider Vinegar, submerging all the peels. You want to make sure your peels stay beneath the apple cider vinegar so they don’t mold. To do this you can strategically put one large peel on the top (still submerged) that will keep all the smaller peels submerged. You can also use a glass weight (used in fermenting) or even rocks that have been sanitized to hold all the peels beneath the vinegar.
Put the Lid on and Store for 2 months
If you are using a metal lid, you need to put a piece of parchment paper between the glass and the lid. This will protect the metal from getting rusted by the vinegar.
Twist your lid on tightly and store in a dark place (like a cabinet or pantry) for at least 6 weeks, but up to 3 months.
Strain and Start Cleaning!
After approximately two months of macerating, your cleaner should be good to go!
Separate the vinegar from the peels by straining the vinegar into a separate container. Toss or compost the peels. Store your vinegar in an amber glass spray bottle. Be sure to label with the name and date so you don’t forget what it is!
