I went through a phase where I didn’t like baskets. Looking back, I don’t understand how – I love baskets now!
Have you ever gone thrifting for baskets? I have been able to find some of the BEST deals on beautiful baskets at thrift stores to use for decorating my home. Yay for thrifting!
Decorating with Baskets
1. On the wall – basket wall
I love a good basket wall design! They add a nice pop of warmth and design to any wall. All of my wall baskets were thrifted from second-hand stores for less than $2 each. Most around .50 each! I think it’s so fun that you can collect baskets of many different shapes and colors and make a beautiful work of art for your wall with them.
The trick for basket walls is that it works best with baskets that are flat and long rather than deep. Almost like basket trays. I’ve even used some circular baskets that I think were passed around to collect offering at a church.
2. To hold the wifi cables and random electrical items
Sometimes these wires can be hidden behind a TV. But if you’re like my family and you don’t have a TV, where do all the wifi and internet cords and cables end up? Usually shoved next to a couch or trying to hide behind a shelf.
I was given this beautiful basket and decided that it would be perfect to have beside my couch to hide all our ugly cords and wires. It works great!
3. To keep kids’ books organized
I think that a bookshelf or an open display shelf is a great way to display your kids books. However, if your kids are like mine, they like to have books in different areas of the house. We keep most of our book collection upstairs, but we like to keep a few of our favorite books downstairs.
A basket is the perfect holder for our favorite few books that stay downstairs. Easy for little hands to dig in and find the book they’re looking for too!
4. To hold towels and cloths in the guest bathroom
What better way to keep towels organized for your guests than in a cute basket in the bathroom? This idea probably isn’t new to you, but I had to include it because it’s a great classic way to use a basket!
5. To hold a collection of blankets to grab and keep cozy
What better way to keep a soft throw, a crocheted afghan, or baby muslin blankets organized? A big basket! Super easy for the kids to grab to get cozy on the couch with a good book.
6. To hold extra diapers and wipes downstairs
Sometimes it’s inconvenient to have to run upstairs when you have multiple little kids and a baby with a dirty diaper. I love the idea of using a basket to keep a few diapers and wipes organized downstairs so you can easily grab them when you need to!
7. To hold your mail that needs to be sorted (instead of a pile on the counter)
My friend recommended this idea to me one day when I was complaining that one corner of my bar counter always seemed to have a small pile of mail or receipts that are waiting to be sorted through. Why not get a small basket to hold the papers instead and at least it will look neater than a pile of paper!
8. To use as a boho plant holder with a pot inside
Using a basket as a pot cover seriously looks so adorable and boho to me!
9. Basket pendant light DIY
How adorable is this basket light?! This is a tutorial from Life on Summer Hill, and it look so easy! I really want to try to make one of these soon. It would look so cute in a boho office or nursery.

10. Little baskets for kids puzzles or Waldorf toys that need to be kept in one spot
I love using small baskets to keep small shapes puzzles, rock blocks, and peg people safe and organized! It’s really easy for my daughter to just grab the little basket off of her shelf and carry the contents to her rug to play with, rather than trying to carry all the individual pieces.
